Speculations About Hybrid Materials

The size of computing components is continuously shrinking so we can start to imagine a future in which the digital and the physical fuse to create new hybrid materials that have both physical and digital properties.

What happen when the digital and the material become one? When a material can sense its surroundings, record data, and acts independently from human interaction? Although such a future is far to come, we can start imagining it and speculating at what could be done with such hybrid materials.
